The Asian Longhorned Beetle was accidentally imported into the United States in in late 1980's. It is believed to have arrive in wooden shipping pallets through the port at New York City. Since its introduction into the United States, the Beetle has migrated westward, devastating Maple Trees as it goes. Efforts to the eradicate this threat have only slowed its progress, The public is urged to be on the lookout for the Asian Longhorned Beetle and report any sightings to their local Department of Agriculture. Adult Beetles are 3/4 to 1 1/4 inches long and bore 1/2 inch diameter holes in trees. They leave large piles of sawdust around the base of the tree.
